Problem
Possible
Causes |
Balls Drop
Catalyst
not flowing. Bottom needle valve plugged strainer.
Balls Fluctuate
Vibration
causing partial closing of needle valve. Open or tighten
packing to stop vibration effect.
Balls Overshoot
Top
valve is open too far.
Balls Stick
Dirty
ball and glass tube assembly.
Catalyst Leaks
or Drips
Catalyst
valve not seating properly, loose packing, loose hose
connections.
Cavitating Pump
Sucks Air
Remove
siphon tube and place directly into resin. If pump operates
correctly then siphon tube is too small or there is a
leak in the siphon system.
Clogged Screen
Batch
lumpy or partially gelled; old material still clinging
to pump mixes with new batch when pump is placed in
fresh drum; clean screens and pump periodically when
material builds up.
Gun Drips Catalyst
Trigger
adjustment; seat or seals worn; air valve damaged; sticking
trigger, valve, or seat; loose connection.
Gun Drips Material
Needle
is worn, sticking, or bent; needle seating needs adjustment;
packing or seals worn; loose connections.
Material Leaking Around the Pump Shaft
Replace,
clean, or tighten loose or worn seals (stop pump in lowest
position when not in use); check for worn shaft.
Poor Breakup
of Gel Coat
Check
hose length, diameter, and pressure. Nozzle and air cap
may be worn or clogged. Faulty regulator. Check valves
for sticking. Inadequate atomization air. Airless, spray-fluid
pressure too low; orifice too large; worn tip; or inadequate
CFM.
Pump Shaft
Motion Erratic
Check
filters. Internal packing may be worn. Starved pump. Fill
lubricating cup around pump shaft (Binks Pumps).
Spray Pattern
Off-Center
Air
cap partiually clogged; nozzle damaged; worn or bent fluid
needle; worn air cap or nozzle. Airless tip worn or damaged.
